PUNS stands for Prioritization of Urgency of Need for Services. It is an Illinois list for individuals with developmental disabilities who may need services and support now or in the future.
What Will You Walk Away Knowing?
At this session, you will learn:
-
Why getting your child on the PUNS list early matters. The younger your child is when you get connected, the more time you have to plan for their future.
-
How PUNS works and what families need to do to get started.
-
What services and supports may be available as your child's needs change and they get older.
-
How Illinois funding may help pay for services that are not provided through the school district.
-
Why income is not a barrier to being enrolled in PUNS. There are no minimum or maximum income requirements; the individual must have a qualifying developmental disability.
You don't have to know exactly what your child will need in the future. Getting on the PUNS list connects your child to the system and keeps the door open to potential services and supports as their needs change.
Because some services have limited funding and lengthy waits, waiting until your child is approaching graduation or adulthood may mean waiting longer for the help they need.
Whether your child is in preschool or high school, now is the time to learn, plan and prepare. Think of it as getting in line for potential services before you actually need them.
