Family Engagement Liaison

Huntley 158 understands that a strong partnership with parents supports student growth and achievement. The Special Services Department has a Family Engagement Liaison to build relationships with families and support them in providing education on topics related to special education to equip them and their student with strong self-advocacy skills.  The Family Engagement Liaison promotes an inclusive community mindset and works collaboratively with staff and families to:

  • Provide training on various topics related to special education or parenting a child with a disability
  • Support parents in the IEP process and help them navigate transitions throughout their child's education
  • Connect families with various resources/agencies in the community
  • Encourage meaningful opportunities for parent involvement
  • Coordinate family engagement opportunities across the district, including meetings and events for families of students with special needs, such as the new Thriving Futures Talks and Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) meetings, as well as events for ALL families, such as the Huntley 158 Family Learning Series, the Health & Wellness Fair, and the "Future Ready" Transitions Fair
  • Assist families as their students transition out of the LIGHT program helping to connect them with supports students will need after graduation
