High School ACT Test

In middle school, students will develop essential communication skills and critical reading abilities, laying a solid groundwork for success in high school language arts. Our focus is on fostering analytical thinking, effective writing, and appreciation for diverse literary works.

Students in middle school will explore diverse subjects and cultivate curiosity, preparing for high school exploratory courses. Our goal is to promote creative thinking, critical exploration, and discovery of new interests.

District 158 uses a variety of tools to support student and parent understanding of student progress. Four times per year, middle school students will receive a quarterly grade to provide information on their progress in relationship to the Illinois Learning Standards. If you would like to discuss your child’s progress, please reach out to your child's teacher. Interventions in middle school are tailored support systems designed to address specific academic or behavioral needs of students, ensuring every child receives the personalized attention and assistance necessary to succeed in their educational journey.  These may occur within the classroom setting with the classroom teacher, or outside of the classroom with another interventionist.

• Tier 1 Interventions are interventions that a classroom teacher can implement for a student needing a behavioral or academic strategy, reteaching, or extra practice. 

• Tier 2 interventions can take place in the classroom or outside the classroom. These interventions are focused on a specific skill area and are progress monitored until the student no longer needs the intervention. 

• Tier 3 interventions typically take place outside of the classroom during a time where other students are practicing skills and no new content is being taught. Students in Tier 3 interventions have multiple skills that need to be introduced, practiced, and mastered. These materials are often comprehensive in nature and follow a specific scope and sequence.

During middle school, students will build problem-solving prowess and logical thinking skills, preparing them for high school mathematics. We aim to cultivate quantitative literacy, analytical abilities, and enthusiasm for tackling mathematical challenges.
