Eligibility and Enrollment

Eligibility for the Dual Language Program

Students entering kindergarten (and some 1st graders) who are identified as English Learners and qualify for bilingual instruction through a language screening will be placed directly into the Dual Language program.

For students who do not qualify for bilingual instruction, including all native English speakers, placement is determined through a lottery system for any remaining spots.

The Huntley 158 Spanish Dual Language Program is offered at the Reed Road Campus, with students attending Chesak Elementary (K-2), Martin Elementary (3-5), and Marlowe Middle School (6-8). Transportation is provided for students residing outside these school boundaries.

How to Apply

Interested families must acknowledge that they are interested in Dual Language on their Kindergarten Registration documentation.

Lottery Process

  • The lottery will occur one week after registration and will randomly select students from the pool of applicants.
  • Families of selected students will be notified via letter.
  • Students who are not selected in the lottery will be placed on a waiting list in the order their names were drawn.

Wait List Procedure

If a student in the program transfers out, the District will contact the family of the next student on the waiting list. If the family declines the spot, the District will move to the next name on the list.

Commitment to the Program

Families enrolling in the Dual Language program are expected to commit to a six-year participation period (kindergarten through 5th grade). This commitment ensures students can fully develop their Spanish and English language skills, aligning with research on effective dual language programs.
