Eligibility and Enrollment

The Huntley 158 Spanish Dual Language Program is offered at the Reed Road Campus, with students attending Chesak Elementary (K-2), Martin Elementary (3-5), and Marlowe Middle School (6-8). Transportation is provided for students residing outside these school boundaries.

Enrollment Process

  • Interest forms will be required from all families, both bilingual and native English speakers.
  • Students entering kindergarten (and some 1st graders) who are identified as English Learners and qualify for bilingual instruction through a language screening will be placed directly into the Dual Language program. For students who do not qualify for bilingual instruction, including all native English speakers, placement is determined through a lottery system for any remaining spots (see lottery information below).
  • Families who have a current student in the Dual Language program and wish to enroll a sibling who is entering kindergarten for the 2025-26 school year must submit an interest form by Friday, April 25, 2025.
  • Early Childhood Center students are screened in March/April. The screener scores will be used to determine qualification for Dual Language enrollment.

Parent Informational Meetings

Interested families must acknowledge that they are interested in Dual Language on their kindergarten registration documentation. Informational meetings about the Dual Language program will be held for prospective families with incoming kindergarteners in April. See meeting dates and times below.

  • Monday, April 7, 2025 @ 5 p.m. - Dual Language informational meeting for incoming kindergarten families at Chesak Elementary School (10910 Reed Rd., LITH)
  • Wednesday, April 9, 2025 @ 9 a.m. - Dual Language informational meeting for incoming kindergarten families via Google Meet (https://meet.google.com/zni-ysfy-znj)

Lottery Process and Timeline

The lottery will occur one week after registration and will randomly select students from the pool of applicants. Families of selected students will be notified via a letter. See the timeline below:

June 6, 2025: Application form for the lottery is sent home

June 13, 2025:  Lottery interest form is due

June 20, 2025: Notification emails of lottery selection are sent home to parents

June 27, 2025: Acceptance response form is due

Early July: Dual Language class lists are shared with elementary principals

Wait List Procedure

Students who are not selected in the lottery will be placed on a waiting list in the order their names were drawn. If a student in the program transfers out, the District will contact the family of the next student on the waiting list. If the family declines the spot, the District will move to the next name on the list.

Commitment to the Program

Families enrolling in the Dual Language program are expected to commit to a six-year participation period (kindergarten through 5th grade). This commitment ensures students can fully develop their Spanish and English language skills, aligning with research on effective dual language programs.
