Raiders Read Together

In June, Huntley 158 will once again host its community-wide summer reading program - Raiders Read Together! Modeled after the popular “one book, one community” concept, Raiders Read Together is designed to enhance students' literacy skills over the summer and to engage students, families and the community in reading the same book and discussing its important messages and themes. Welcome to Huntley 158’s community-wide summer reading initiative!

This summer, we invite families to hit the road and travel our community with a small but adventurous mouse named Ralph as we read The Mouse and the Motorcycle by Beverly Cleary. Inspired by the spirit of Route 66, this journey will take readers on a literary road trip filled with imagination, exploration, and fun along the way!

We’ll host weekly read-aloud events and engaging activities at the Huntley Area Public Library and the Huntley Park District, and provide an opportunity for students and families to engage in their own travel adventure by visiting local businesses. We’re committed to ensuring all students, regardless of their individual needs, can fully participate and enjoy the Raiders Read Together experience. If your child requires modified materials, digital resources or other accommodations to engage in this literary adventure, please fill out this form by 5/20 and we’ll get the materials to you. 

Families are encouraged to: 

• Read the book together according to the weekly calendar. 
• Attend weekly read-aloud sessions on Mondays starting June 8. District and community guest readers will read and discuss a chapter of the book, then the kids will engage in a related activity. See below for the dates, times, locations and guest reader schedule. Note the time change for the first session on 7/6. A parent or adult caregiver must accompany child(ren) to the read-aloud sessions.
• Visit local businesses - Follow the road map on the bookmark to earn stickers at destinations along the route, then bring your stamped bookmark to the final read-aloud on 7/6 for a chance to win a prize! Participating businesses this year include: Blessed Little Kitchen, Century 21, Dairy Mart, Huntley Area Public Library, Huntley Park District, Morkes Chocolates, Sal's Pizza, Scoopy Doo Creamery, Sports Clips and Vintage Hammer.
