Raiders Read Together

In June, Huntley 158 will once again host its community-wide summer reading program - Raiders Read Together! Modeled after the popular “one book, one community” concept, Raiders Read Together is designed to enhance students' literacy skills over the summer and to engage students, families and the community in reading the same book and discussing its important messages and themes. Welcome to Huntley 158’s community-wide summer reading initiative!

This summer all Huntley 158 elementary school students and families are invited to join Huntley 158 in reading The World According to Humphrey by Betty G. Birney. We are committed to ensuring that all students, regardless of their individual needs, can fully participate and enjoy the Raiders Read Together experience. If your child requires modified materials, digital resources or other accommodations to engage in this literary adventure, please fill out this form and we'll get materials to you. See below for more information and how you can participate!

How Does Raiders Read Together Work?

  • Read the book, "The World According to Humphrey," as a family! Check out our family reading guide for tips, strategies and discussion questions.
  • Attend weekly read-aloud sessions! Starting Monday, June 9th, district and community guest readers will read and discuss a chapter of the book, then engage the kids in a related activity. See below for the dates, times, locations and guest reader schedule. Note: A parent or adult caregiver must accompany their child(ren) to the read-aloud sessions.

  • Participate in our community scavenger hunt! Visit local Huntley businesses and restaurants and see if you can find the stuffed animal version of Humphrey! If you do, snap a photo with him and post it on social media (Facebook or Instagram) with the hashtag #HumphreyinHuntley or email it to communications@district158.org to be entered into our raffle!
  • Decorate your Traveling Humphrey and take him with you on your summer adventures! Snap a photo of your Humphrey at your destination and email it, along with your first name, grade and school to communications@district158.org.
